VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut GmbH (BFI) is a non-profit research institute located in Düsseldorf, Germany, specialised in applied research in the field of steel industry. The staff, 100 people – 70% scientists and engineers, organized in seven departments, drives in close interdisciplinary cooperation. Nearly all projects end with practically implemented solutions of research results. Currently BFI has approx. 60 running European and 50 national funded research projects which are complemented by 90 privately funded projects in cooperation with the industry.
Role in the project
BFI has the following main roles in the Safe H-DRI Project:
- Investigation of different iron ore qualities for production of H-DRI samples (reduction)
- Agglomeration of selected fines feedstock to produce small-scale, pellet-sized samples
- Passivation trials in the hot state e.g. by carburisation with carbonaceous gases
- H-DRI high temperature reoxidation trials in lab/technical scale at different temperatures and inertisation condition
Team
Ralf Wolters and Alexa Kala will perform the activities for BFI and will be accompanied by Theresa Overbeck.
