The Chair of Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, and Mining Economics at Montanuniversität Leoben focuses research on Sustainability and Raw Materials Policy, Digitalization and Innovation, Underground Mining and Rock Mechanics, Surface Mining and Mining Planning as well as Conveying Technology and Geoinformatics.
Our team in the ‘Conveying Technology and Design Methods‘ working group is dedicated to comprehensive research and development in various areas of conveying technology, providing support for projects through innovative solutions and in-depth analyses. In addition to traditional mechanical engineering tasks, we develop new conveying concepts and optimize existing systems. Furthermore, we utilize discrete element simulations to gain detailed insights into conveying processes, bulk material movements, as well as fracture and wear behavior.
Role in the project
The Chair of Mining Engineering – research group ‘Conveying Technology and Design Methods’ – has the following main roles in the Safe H-DRI project:
- Quantification of H-DRI breaking behaviour, degradation and crack formation during handling
- Simulations (using the discrete element method) and model studies to analyse crack formation, e.g., during container emptying
Team
Michael Prenner, Senior Scientist, and Katharina Skoff, Senior Researcher, will carry out the activities on behalf of the Chair of Mining.
