DB Cargo is Deutsche Bahn‘s freight transport division. Employing some 30,000 people and active in 17 European countries and all the way to China, we are one of the leading providers of rail freight transport in Europe. DB Cargo is the only company to offer business customers from any sector rail transport across Europe from a single source, giving them access to one of the largest rail networks worldwide. Within this network our portfolio covers block train, single wagon and combined transport products. We also provide other services such as storage, monitoring and pre- and oncarriage, and coordinate transshipment from one mode to another. Climate and environmental protection is one of the greatest challenges of our times. And it also applies to the transport and logistics sector: in Europe around one quarter of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide is caused by traffic. Trains aren‘t just the safest way to transport freight – they‘re also the greenest. That‘s because they generate up to 80% less CO2 than road transport. We take up to 22 million truck journeys off the road every year, saving around 7 million tonnes of CO2 compared to road transport.

Role in the project

DB Cargo strongly supports the development of guidelines regarding rail transportation as well as handling as well as the exploitation of results.
